Thoughts on the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace

Kaliya Young · June 25, 2010 · 1 Comment

Update: This blog post was written while reading the first draft released in the Summer of 2010. A lot changed from then to the publishing of the document in April 2011.
Here is my answer to the NSTIC Governence Notice of Inquiry.
And an article I wrote on Fast Company: National! Identity! Cyberspace! Why you shouldn’t freak out about NSTIC.
Interestingly in paragraph two on the White House blog it says that NSTIC stands for “National Strategy for Trusted Initiatives in Cyberspace” rather than “National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace”.

SD Forum on Interoperability: Interoperability via Standards

Kaliya Young · January 31, 2006 · Leave a Comment

I managed to make it to make it to the SD Forum at TechMart this morning.
I caught the end of Anne Thomas Manes’ talk. Her was her last slide –
Interoperability is the goal
Standards are the solution
Standardization takes time
Vendors typically do the standardization
Venders always pursue their own agenda

Declaration of Network Independence

Rick Ringel (yes this is his real name) presented this Declaration of Network Independence at etel that will resonate deeply with the user-centric identity community.
Declaration of Network Independence

that among these are
Identity -> Existence -> Life
Mobility -> Movement -> Passage -> Freedom -> LIberty
And the pursuit of Innovation
Unalienable Right to Identity – Independent of devices, modes, service providers or access networks – Equality

Unalienable Right to Identity – Create, destroy and transfer ownership – Property
Unalienable Right to Identity – Control When, How, What and With Whom – Privacy and Association
Unalienable Right to Mobility – Move between services providers while retaining identity – Liberty
Unalienable Right to Pursue Innovation – End Users have a right to creat applications that interact with the Network on their behalf, or on behalf of many Users – Individualism.
We mutually pledge to each other our Vision, Our Standards, and our Interoperability.

The Digital Living Network Alliance is working on standards for cross platform interoperability. They are focused on delivering an interoperability framework of design guidelines based on open industry standards to complete the cross-industry digital convergence.
