o We like in-groups because we are motivated to achieve and maintain a positive self-image.
o This self-image has two components.
+ Personal Identity
+ Social identities, which derive from our associations with groups.
o Thus, when our group succeeds, we succeed, which bolsters our self-image.
o This process is shown in the next slide.
